2016 – Casey Affleck (Manchester by the Sea)
Manchester by the Sea follows a man after his brother dies and he is entrusted with caring for his teenage nephew. Casey Affleck won an Oscar for his performance as Lee Chandler, a grief-stricken loner, Randi’s ex-husband, Joe’s brother and Patrick’s uncle.
2017 – Gary Oldman (Darkest Hour)
Darkest Hour is set in May 1940, it stars Gary Oldman as Winston Churchill and is an account of his early days as Prime Minister during World War II and the May 1940 War Cabinet Crisis, while Nazi Germany’s Wehrmacht swept across Western Europe and threatened to defeat the United Kingdom. The German advance leads to friction at the highest levels of government between those who would make a peace treaty with Adolf Hitler, and Churchill, who refused.
2018 – Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody)
Bohemian Rhapsody is a biographical film about Freddie Mercury, lead singer of the British rock band Queen. It follows the singer’s life from just before he joins the band in 1970 to their 1985 Live Aid performance at the original Wembley Stadium in London. It was directed by Bryan Singer from a screenplay by Anthony McCarten, and produced by Graham King and Queen manager Jim Beach. It stars Rami Malek as Mercury, with Lucy Boynton, Gwilym Lee, Ben Hardy, Joe Mazzello, Aidan Gillen, Tom Hollander, Allen Leech, and Mike Myers in supporting roles.
